#198.  I just renewed my pass to The Happiest Place on Earth for what will now by mu 10th year.  And I did something I've never done, I  upgraded to the deluxe pass.  So I'll be seeing more of Disneyland in the next 12 months.

#191.  Yesterday I was eating the oldest continuously manufactured candy (Necco Wafers) and today I'm wearing a shirt of one of the oldest sodas (Moxie).

Moxie is an acquired taste for those used to the more common Coke or Pepsi, but I love it.  I haven’t been to the Moxie Festival yet, but this year I did buy a t-shirt.

#190. I know the TV series was a big time cheese loaf, but I loved it.  Then again, I grew up on Krofft shows.  I wasn't really surprised to see how lame the movie was, although it was a little lamer than I expected.  Hope the rumors about a Pufnstuf movie never just stay in the rumor stage.
If anyone should remake something Krofft, i think Jelly fish should get back together and record the theme to Lidsville.  Otherwise, hands off Krofft.

#189. Dreamy electronic music from duo from France.  Moon Safari has some killer songs on it, but if you don't know them I'd recommend Talkie Walkie or even their predominately instrumental soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides.

#188.  Not just one of the best albums of the 80's, Echo and the Bunnyman's 1984 album Ocean Rain is among my favorite albums of all times.

Following the harsh and slightly difficult Porcupine, Echo and the Bunnymen added strings and dreamier arrangements to their sound and really nailed it.
This shirt is from the Club Nokia show where they played they entire album.  Sadly, I didn't think they nailed the album.  It took a few songs for Ian to get warmed up, but by the time they were recreating side two, things started to gel.
However, the second set of classics tore the roof off the Nokia.  Maybe they should have warmed up with Crocodiles before tearing into Ocean Rain.

#187.  From the brief period where they were a 4 piece.  After Jay Bennett and Ken Coomer left the band and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot sat on the shelf, Wilco found themselves in transition.  Adding Glenn Kotche to the band was a smart movie, but there was still something missing in the live shows.
But greatness was just around the corner, especially with the addition of Nels Cline, and the 6 piece line up that plays today has been the most stable line up of Wilco yet.

#186. Love this design.  Another Stones tour shirt from a show I didn't go to.

#185. From the second LA version of All Tomorrow's Parties.  This one took place on and around the Queen Mary in Long Beach for two nights.  Matt Groening curated this show and highlights included Carla Bozulich playing songs from Red Headed Stranger, The Magic Band playing the songs of Captain Beefheart, and a shit kicking set from Iggy and the Stooges.  Sadly, Elliott Smith was scheduled to play but took his life nearly 3 weeks before the show.

#184.  From the tour of the carrier spanning Forty Licks collection, The Rolling Stones chose a few cities to play 3 distinctive shows, one in a stadium, one in an arena and one in a theater.  Each show would have sets that would be constructed for each venue and obviously the theater ticket was the most difficult to get.

My buddy and I really tried to get tickets to The Wiltern, but we knew we were probably going to get shut out.  But that didn't mean we wouldn't go.  I finally caved in and bought a ticket on eBay, spending more on the ticket than I have ever spent on a concert before or since.  My buddy, in a fit of optimism, decided to line up at the Wiltern and hope for the best.  He got there around 5:30, first in line, and sure enough he got in for much less than I spent.

But I don't regret spending that money.  I got a perfect spot, center and about 20 feet from band.  My friend was in balcony.  And we both probably cried that night.

As far as the sets, over the 3 nights in Los Angeles the Stones played 46 different songs, and of the 20 songs they played at The Wiltern only 6 of these were played at the other shows.

#183. I'm a sucker for animation.  If pressed to list my 10 favorite movies, at least two animated films would rank high (Iron Giant and Pinocchio).

A few years ago, a friend of mine recommended this animated series on the Cartoon Network, and I fell in love right away.  Besides capturing cartoon superhero elements of shows passed, there is also a great line of pop culture references running through the series.  The shows are always smartly written, and sometimes dense enough to warrant multiple viewings.

And I'm also certain they stole the facial features of a friend of mine for Rusty Venture.  He should sue.

#182. Another Wilco shirt.  The statement at the top, everything is going to be OK, goes out to my mom :)

#180. They changed the face of rock and roll, and in a few short years they left a musical legacy that is still going strong.

#179. My first trip to New York City was built around this two day festival called Across the Narrows.  Each day there were two shows, one in Staten Island and one in Coney Island, both at minor league baseball stadiums.  Shows weren't well attended which is probably why there was never another Across the Narrows.

#178. Great British band who has churned out a series of decent albums, and usually follow them with a tour.  This show was from the How We Operate tour.  The band never disappoints me in concert.

#177. The 2nd Vote For Change show we saw (see #145 on July 7 for 1st show).  Seeing Bruce Springsteen AND R.E.M. at Cobo Hall (where KISS Alive! was recorded) was special in many ways.  The special mini set from John Fogerty, the opening set from Bright Eyes, and the surprise appearance from The Dixie Chicks made this night extra memorable.

#175.  Picked up on a trip to Santa Fe in 1994.  And I still don't know what I'm going to do with my life.

#174.  From the Bridges to Babylon tour.  Weak album and by far my least favorite Stones show.  Besides touring a dull album with a lifeless show, they chose to play the horrid Dodger Stadium.  It was so bad that the last time the Stones were in town they played Dodger Stadium and I didn't go, and I have never missed a Stones show in LA since 1981 (except for a few multi-night stands at a venue).

#173. The 2002 reunion tour.  Stills was the weak link, Neil was Neil, but the big surprise to me was the wonderful sounds Crosby and Nash could still create when harmonizing.  This shirt is a clever cover recreation of their classic album Deja Vu.

#172. From a little trip to Buellton.  Like Huell Howser, I am easily distracted by roadside attractions.

#171. This is the only bootleg shirt in my collection.  I usually don't buy bootleg shirts but bought this because the back had the cities of the tour listed, and I went to the 2 Berkeley Greek shows and the 2 Los Angeles Greek shows and I wanted a shirt that listed the cities.

#170. Eight miles of books in the greatest city in the world?  Sounds like a dream home to me.
